About Us

J.J. Maxwell - Who We Are

J.J. Maxwell Tack & Saddle Co. is a small, family-operated business located in Shasta County in Northern California.

Joe Maxwell has been a custom saddle maker since 1993. He was trained by a California State Certified Master in the old Visalia tradition. He believes strongly in educating people about the proper fit and positioning of their saddles; as well as the importance of a well-constructed and properly rigged saddle. Last, but not least, is the importance of a properly built seat.

Joe and his wife Cindy have owned horses for most of their adult lives and know from experience what is needed to have a secure, comfortable, balanced saddle that fits the horse and rider.

About Our Logo

JJ Maxwell Tack & Saddle Co. LogoThis page on our logo was made so everyone may better understand a very important part of our business. As you may notice, the logo consists of a mountain range, a narrow path, and rays of light.

The mountain range represents life, and just like the mountain range, life has its ups and downs, its smooth spots, and its rough spots.

The pathway represents the right path in life, that path is with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Like Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it, because narrow is the gate, and difficult is the way that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Basically, it’s easy to head off on the wrong path. There are many options that lead that way. That path is “wide,” but there is only one “narrow” way to truly live a fulfilling life, and that is through Jesus.

The rays represent the glory on the other side. Even when we have hard times, and it seems like the “rock slides” of life are coming down on us, if we have Jesus, we know everything is going to turn out just fine. If we have asked Him into our lives, we can rest assured that He will always come through for us. In Matthew 6:25-34, He tells us not to worry, because our heavenly Father is going to take care of us. So, sometimes life may be hard, sometimes it seems like an easy ride, but with Jesus Christ, we can be sure that we will get to the glory on the other side.

Tooling Patterns

The seven tooling patterns you are about to look at are part of the line that the Lord prompted me to build. They are designed to show in a subtle, beautiful way, God’s Love for us through His son, Jesus. They are each provide a message based strictly on God’s word. This ministry is designed to be ongoing, even to the person who rides it. Each comes with a numbered, signed certificate, that explains the art and scriptures that each is based on. This allows the owner of the saddle to take an active part by using it to minister the Lord’s principles to all the Lord may lead. Below is a description of the vision given to Joe Maxwell. This is a vision from the Lord, as given to Joe Maxwell, January 1993Western style saddles with art depicting biblical themes meant to give thought, to glorify the Lord. To be sold not just to Christians, but to all who the Lord wishes to touch. The overall theme not to be excessive, but just to provoke thought in a beautiful thought inspiring way. A means of entering into a market that has not been touched by many for the Lord Jesus. A short thought provoking letter to accompany each saddle, explaining the art, meaning in design, and the look of each. The names of the seven designs are:
  • Prophet
  • Red Sea Drifter
  • Chariot
  • Promised Land
  • Exodus
  • Provision
  • Covenant
